Fitzroy Update.

The renovations are proceeding and although the builder is a little behind schedule, he is confident he will catch up. The meeting room is roofed, the plaster sheeting has arrived, acoustic glass has been installed in the front windows, the electrical work is nearing completion and all the piping for the hydronic heating is installed.

The good news is that after last weekend’s downpour no water entered the basements.

Russell celebrates birthday.

Russell Smith celebrated his birthday with the Fitzroy community recently. Also present with the brothers were Claudio (Germany), Camillo (Columbia) and Karl who has recently returned from six months in Guatamala with Br Cesar.

Br Mark O’Connor cooked a very nice meal and Karl and Mark reminisced about their European trip.

News from Haiti.

The Brothers in Haiti are working very hard amongst the earthquake victims. We are already giving classes to all the pupils. The school was closed for a month. Then after an inspection by a local engineer, it was able to open its doors two weeks ago.

East Timor Gathering.

On Sunday evening 28th Feb about 20 East Timorese young people gathered at Nth Fitzroy to renew acquantainces and strengthen community ties. Br Mark Paul and Helen Peters (St Joseph’s Hunters Hill) were the organisers. Drinks and nibbles were followed by Russel Smith performing on Br Peter Walsh’s didgeridoo.

Fitzroy Renovations.

The renovations at Fitzroy are proceeding apace and the building is beginning to take shape and give some indication of what it will look like when finished. The gathering area, ground floor 76, gives promise of a very welcoming and workable area which will open up the two rooms at the front of the house and flow into the new meeting room/kitchenette at the rear, with the possibility of further gathering spaces across the rear of 78 and 80. (see photo.) Plumbers and gasfitters are in and the airconditioning and hydronic heating systems are in process. The roof on the new meeting room is almost finished and a response to the dampness in the basements has been agreed. Negotiations with the neighbour re the wall displacement in 80 are continuing and we hope to have agreement soon.

Opening of the School Year Mass at Assumption College, Kilmore

Bishop Tim Costello was the Principal Celebrant at the 2010 Commisioning Mass in the Gonzales Centre at the College on Friday, 12th February at 9.00am. Principal, Mr Michael Kenny welcomed the many Brothers, staff, parents and students who gathered to ask God’s blessing on the new school year and to commission the new student leaders.

Funeral of Mrs Patricia Mae O'Halloran

The funeral for Mrs Patricia Mae O’Halloran (17 May 1923 - 29 January 2010) was held at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, in the north of Perth, WA, on Thursday, 4 February 2010. Many relatives, friends and others gathered to support Patricia’s living sons and daughter: Ray, Michael and Anne, and their families. Family members conducted the ceremony which celebrated her life.

The Eulogies were given by eldest son, Ray, and grand-daughter, Nicole. They spoke fondly of a lady who developed good relationships with all those around her.

Patricia’s eldest son, Evan (Br Evan O’Halloran, FMS) was a Marist Brother. He died of cancer on 26 September 1984, aged 41 years, and is buried in the Brothers’ section of the Kilmore Catholic Cemetery. Patricia’s husband, Jim, died many years ago.

May they all rest in peace.
